Blogging for Business
Blogging for business is a growing phenomenon that will reward those who make the effort. I have always advised my clients that what visitors to their sites will value is free information - knowledge and expertise shared with the visitor without obligation. It does not just establish your credentials; it also establishes a relationship of trust at the outset.
Of course, you do not need to give the whole shop away, but your web site is your showcase, whether you have products to sell or services to offer. It also helps people to find you in search engines if you are blogging about matters which interest a potential customer. Do not be afraid to give your opinion, either, your readers may already be aware of the bare facts of the matter and they are actually looking for an expert's interpretation. And you are an expert, right? Of course you are, that was a trick question. Do not underestimate how much you know, or how interested non-experts will be in your knowledge. Ultimately it helps them make a better buying decision and helps them feel more confident about dealing with you.
If you're struggling to get started, or at a loss as to what to blog about next, think about what you've been talking about with your colleagues, or what you've just read about elsewhere. Or, perhaps more pertinently, if a client or customer asks you a specific question, give him your reply, and then immediately blog about it. If it interested him, it will interest others, and if you get feedback, then the cycle will feed itself and the only problem then will be stopping yourself from blogging and getting on with some work!
